I am a visual artist with over 30 years of experience, working primarily in painting and drawing. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Victorian College of the Arts and a Master of Visual Arts from Sydney College of the Arts. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in Finland, Iceland, Slovakia, Canada, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Denmark. I have been a finalist in major national prizes including the Portia Geach Memorial Award (twice), the Blake Prize, the Whyalla Art Prize, the Lismore Portrait Prize, the Percival Portrait Prize, and the Hornsby Art Prize. My work is held in public collections including Artbank, La Trobe Regional Gallery, the City of Yarra, and Box Hill Institute. While I also work in video and have collaborated on several performance and screen-based projects, painting and drawing remain at the heart of my innovative and professional arts practice.
My work explores the relationship between gesture and structure through a series of abstract paintings. I work with a vibrant colour palette and there’s a physicality to the mark-making—at times delicate, at times assertive—that creates a visceral charge. At the same time, my compositions—which emerge through a combination of unpremeditated action and structured revision—incorporate organic and geometric forms that are built up through collage into dense, dynamic fields. These layered surfaces create spatial complexity and visual rhythm, inviting the viewer to consider the relationship between order and spontaneity. There’s a hovering between clarity and opacity—between the familiar and the ambiguous—that invites sustained looking and multiple readings. In this way, the work becomes a kind of “edited self,” where the spontaneity of gestural mark-making meets the cutting and reflective process of collage. It is this interplay that underpins the innovative, evolving nature of my professional practice.

Community engagement is an important part of my practice. I run painting workshops for children and adults at art centres and libraries throughout Victoria. These workshops are hands-on and joyful, combining creative learning with live budgerigar observation, and introducing participants to drawing and painting techniques while fostering curiosity and connection. They reflect my broader interest in how art can foster both play and reflection.
While diverse in form, all aspects of my practice are connected by a deep engagement with materiality, visual language, and the search for meaning through abstraction. I am committed to continuing this innovative and professional arts practice, and to producing new work that builds on the depth and direction of my current painting practice.
